So I come home from necessary vacation shopping and turn on the pc.. it boots!

YAY!

I got so excited except... the attempt at repairing windows from earlier that wasn't working kicks in and weee reinstalling windows. FUCKER!

...I didn't want to reinstall windows. :(

I hope it saves all my shit from before. :(

I have a lot of crap in those folders. :(

I don't have all the install stuff to put programs back on. :(

I don't remember what happens when you do this.

What I WANT to know is WHY WAS IT NOT READING THE BOOT SECTOR I MANUALLY CREATED UNTIL NOW?

So here's what's up. I was about to save this super awesome icon I made that took a long time and a lot of editing of images and textures etc and PS stops responding. Ok. That sucks. *wait* Still no response. *tries to minimize and play in another window* Fail. *Ctrl-Alt-Del* Nothing. *hit keys repeatedly in annoyance* Nothing. *swear profusely and stare at all the unsavable windows* Makes me feel a tad better at the loss. *hit reset button on pc*

UNABLE TO BOOT, INSERT FLOPPY.

You know, I don't own one for XP because as far as I know you can't make one. (And all my searching on this pc I'm using now seems to confirm that.)

Now the real crap is that I do not have my XP install disc anymore. I have not seen it since before Chris moved out. (And consequently I have his, which is possibly useless since I have Pro and he had Home.)

So I swipe the Dell recovery disc for my mom's old PC, which is the only other one in the house with Pro. Thank god I can still remember DOS. (I miss you DOS.) Yay recovery console DOS prompt. It's been a good three or so hours and I am still running chkdsk on my boot drive. >:| If it drops back to 50% again from 75% I'm going to hurt things.

WHY THOUGH? I DIDN'T MEAN TO KICK THE BABY ACROSS THE STREET!

I leave the country *tomorrow* and I do not have TIME for this shit. (But I don't want to leave it until I return as it will eat at me on vacation and I will cry upon return.)

I just wanted to make the pretty icon in between packing. :(

I'm going to take a stab that either I will have to remake the boot sector or I somehow have a virus from the files I never downloaded since I last ran a virus scan. (Although I think it runs a quick one on startup.. but we know I only reboot like twice a month.) I can access my boot drive in recovery console so thankfully it's not a HD failure.

Oh. And my dad's response to the problem? "You're computer is old anyway." I sneered, since it's not like anyone is going to buy me a NEW one. I only need a new motherboard and cpu anyway.. some day I'll be able to spend the $150 for that..
